Who

Ebony

Drawing on her background in competitive dance, Ebony brings her energetic style to raqs sharqi. She is attracted to belly dance by the medium’s dynamic combination of graceful and percussive movements.

Ebony's early dance influences include urban and electronic styles such as hip hop and house. She specializes in creating her own style of urban/electro fusion belly dance.

Ebony works with Sahara Tribal (http://www.saharadance.com/about/companies/saharatribal/) to create an urban style tribal fusion piece in addition to teaching Raqs Caravan West (http://www.saharadance.com/about/companies/raqscaravanwest/) hip hop tribal fusion. Prior to her Middle Eastern dance training, Ebony performed with the award winning Syracuse University Dance Team, Syracuse University Cheerleading Squad, Creations Dance Troupe and the Bally Total Fitness Demo Team. Ebony performs regularly with Raqs Sahara (http://www.saharadance.com/about/companies/raqssahara/) and has participated in workshops taught by renowned instructors such as Yoursry Sharif, Nourhan Sharif, Amar Gamal, Rachel Brice, Yasmina Ramzy, Jillina and Ansuya. In addition to her full teaching schedule at Sahara Dance, Ebony has also taught classes at the Jewish Community Center, City Fitness, The Sports Club LA and Washington Sports Club. She seeks to help others find the same self expression, enjoyment and fitness that she has found in belly dance. Ebony has performed as a soloist at Skewers Restaurant, Saharabesque!, Impressions of Egypt and at several private functions throughout DC.
